August is National Wellness Month. This is the month to focus on self-care and create healthy habits and routines for a happier self. Small changes can have a big impact on one’s life. Explore ways to promote self-care such as exercising outdoors, spending time at the spa, meditating, getting the right amount of sleep, cooking healthy meals, reading, and journaling.
Physical – Physical activity can help boost the brain’s memory system. Try a new workout to exercise both the mind and body.
Intellectual – Consider a board game or deck of cards the next time free time presents itself. Studies show that playing a game may help increase brain function.
Emotional – Good emotional balance has been shown to improve happiness and relationships. Stay emotionally balanced by experiencing feelings and avoid suppressing them.
Social – During times of social distancing, connect with loved ones through a phone call or video chat, or social distance outdoors to create social opportunities in a safe way. Finding social balance is important, regardless of being an introvert or an extrovert.
Environmental – Spending time outdoors may help improve overall health and lead to a more balanced lifestyle. Protect your skin from harmful UV rays with sunscreen, and enjoy the many benefits of being outdoors.
Financial – In times of uncertainty, finding a balance between saving and spending is even more important. Discover new ways to save while still supporting local businesses that make a big impact within communities.
