June is National Safety Month! This is a time to focus on ways to be safe and prevent injuries. Get involved and learn ways to improve safety around the home and in the community. Ideas for a safer summer might include putting together a first aid kit, taking a CPR class, or teaching children how to be safe around water.
Physical – Riding a bike can be a fun summer activity and a great source of exercise. Be sure to have the bike properly fitted and always wear a helmet.
Intellectual – According to safekids.org, more than half of car seats are not installed or used correctly. Visit safekids.org for top tips on car seat safety and find a local car seat inspection station to ensure your car seats are installed correctly.
Emotional – Emergency situations can cause panic and unclear thinking. Remember to take a deep breath and count to 10 before reacting.
Social – Consider gathering with friends or neighbors for CPR training for a safer community. Collaborate as a team and learn how to be prepared in an emergency.
Environmental – Play it safe in the environment and protect against ultraviolet rays from the sun. Protect your skin with adequate clothing, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF, and shield your eyes with sunglasses.
Financial – Before heading out on that summer road adventure, stay safe and save money by making sure vehicle tires are inflated to the right air pressure.
