Mini Challenge – One In, One Out

Content provided by the Health & Wellness Team at GBS Benefits

It’s easy for calendars, to-do lists, and mental space to quietly fill up. Over time, this constant adding can drain energy and make even small tasks feel heavier than they need to be. This mini challenge is a simple way to protect your capacity and energy.

For one week, practice balancing what comes in with what goes out.

  • If you add something to your calendar, remove or shorten one thing
  • If you add something to your to-do list, cross one thing off
  • If you add something to your physical or mental space, let one thing go

Complete at least five of the following suggestions.

Work Examples

  • Added a meeting → shorten another meeting by 10 minutes
  • Took on a new project → pause or delegate a lower-priority task
  • Added a deliverable → remove unnecessary check-ins

Home Examples

  • Signed up for a new activity → drop one optional obligation
  • Added something to the counter → clear one surface
  • Added a family commitment → protect one evening of downtime

Mental Load Examples

  • Added a worry → write it down and release one expectation
  • Added a decision → remove a “nice to have” from today
  • Added planning → stop overthinking one thing that can wait

Physical Space Examples

  • Bought something new → donate or recycle one item
  • Opened a new tab → close two others
  • Added paperwork → file or toss one stack
