Celebrate American Heart Month by completing five of the following activities.

  • National Wear Red Day is the first Friday in February. Wear red and encourage others to do the same to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and help save lives.
  • Get your heart pumping by exercising for 30 minutes today.
  • Call a relative and ask about your family health history.
  • Make a heart healthy snack. For ideas, visit heart.org/en/healthy-living/healthy-eating/add-color/healthy-snacking.
  • Schedule your annual physical. Discuss your heart health goals with your doctor.
  • Get your blood pressure checked. Learn what the numbers mean at heart.org/en/health-topics/high-blood-pressure/understanding-blood-pressure-readings.
  • Ask a family member or neighbor to join you for a walk.
  • Practice deep breathing, meditation, or guided imagery for five minutes today to manage stress levels. Whether it’s from everyday deadlines, the work-life balancing act, or financial struggles, stress is unavoidable. Your body reacts to stress by increasing heart rate and narrowing blood vessels. If left unmanaged, especially over the long term, this is problematic to your health. Research shows that unmanaged stress can make us more likely to develop heart disease and have a heart attack.
