Now you know more about choosing the right plan, providers, and prescriptions, here are a few more tips to help you have a successful patient experience.
Plan for Your Visit. Prepare a list of questions, symptoms, concerns, and your current medications. Utilize weight inclusive resources, such as these cards that can be used for people who have anxiety or avoidance of care based on weight stigma.
Act. Ask yourself the following questions and prepare to act:
- Do I need to schedule a follow-up visit?
- Do I need any testing, imaging, or bloodwork?
- Do I know how to review my test/health results?
- Did I receive any recommendations for lifestyle changes?
- Do I need to fill a prescription?
Create a Routine for Preventive Visits. Consider adding recurring meetings in your calendar to schedule routine care.
Keep Paper Copies of Records. Prevent unnecessary or prior testing by keeping paper copies of records. Proper documentation of medical history can prevent unnecessary duplication of patient care.
Download Your Healthcare Provider Apps. These often house important plan information like ID cards, cost, network options, and more.
Be Aware of Behavioral Health Options. Behavioral health conditions could include symptoms such as depression, anxiety, substance misuse, obsessive thoughts or behaviors, irritability, low energy, concentration difficulties, decreased interest and motivation, and thoughts of helplessness or hopelessness.
