Leavitt Group of Boise and Safeco Provide Scoreboard for Little League Field

Part of the fun of youth baseball is the fantasy of being just like big leaguers. That fantasy may feel a little more real this season at the West Valley Complex thanks to a new electronic scoreboard to be installed in June. The scoreboard is a gift of The Leavitt Group of Boise and Safeco Corporation`s “PlayBall” program.

In partnership with local insurance agents and financial advisors, Safeco is contributing $1 million over two years to install scoreboards at 62 youth baseball fields across the country – 32 in 2002 and 30 more in 2003. The PlayBall contribution is part of Safeco`s ongoing Strengthening America`s Neighborhoods program.

“We`re thrilled to be able to help improve the West Valley Complex,” said Dwayne Speegle, The Leavitt Group of Boise, “and we`re proud to have a company partner like Safeco that values community spirit.”

The West Valley Complex was chosen for this special donation through a competitive process where independent agents and financial advisors like Dwayne Speegle nominate baseball or softball fields in their community who might benefit from a new scoreboard. Scoreboards around the country will be installed throughout the spring and summer.

“PlayBall is one way of supporting the neighborhoods we serve through our network of independent agents and financial advisors like The Leavitt Group of Boise,” said Mike McGavick, Safeco president and CEO. “PlayBall is a great way to honor our agents and advisors and the neighborhoods they care about.”

“We`re contributing scoreboards because baseball helps bring people together,” McGavick continued. “Parents, neighbors, business owners and elected officials cheer from the bleachers of their local ball park. It`s this sense of community that makes great neighborhoods.” The West Valley Complex scoreboard was officially dedicated on Saturday, June 14th at noon during a family celebration featuring free hotdogs, clowns, balloons, and raffle prizes.

The Leavitt Group of Boise has served the insurance and investment needs of the Boise community since 1997. Along with its sponsorship of the Cardinals Rookie Little League Team, The Leavitt Group of Boise has been a proud supporter of the Boise Boys and Girls Club, is a six-year member of the Boise Chamber of Commerce, and its staff are members of the Southwest Rotary Club and the Building Contractors Association of Southwest Idaho.

Safeco`s Strengthening America`s Neighborhoods program has successfully supported other community gathering places around the country, including neighborhood pocket parks, the Jackson Street Center in Seattle, Wash., and the Trinity Street Center in Decatur, Ga.

Baseball is now a part of Safeco`s national identity through Safeco Field. Every year, the company works with the Seattle Mariners on many community programs that help bring people together. PlayBall builds on that heritage.

Safeco, in business since 1923, is a Fortune 500 company based in Seattle that sells insurance and related financial products through more than 17,000 independent agents and financial advisors.
